ABOUT THE STATE OF BLACK BIRTH EQUITY IN CALIFONRIA REPORT
The State of Black Birth Equity in California Report was developed by the California Coalition for Black Birth Justice. It offers a thorough examination of the movement's current needs and opportunities within today's political and social climate. Through a structured analysis of existing research, new primary sources of data, Black birth equity initiatives
and organizations across the state, this report investigates the policy and power dynamics
needed to drive change, as well as the readiness and support for institutional efforts.

Included in the Report:
Literature Review: peer-reviewed articles on existing trends, emerging trends, rising trends
Organizational & Policy Tracker: 80+ Organizations; 45+ Policies analyzed
Power Analysis: A contextualization of power, what it is, how it operates, and who has it across the landscape to enact systemic change
CA Clinician Focus Group Findings: 7 focus groups; 15 participants (Physicians, Nurses, CNMs, C-Suite Members)
LA Clinic Site Visits & Roundtable Findings: 2 LA-based clinics visited, 1 roundtable discussion

In order to face the immediate and ongoing attacks to Medi-Cal, which covers 40% of all births in the state, the deliberate dismantling of public health infrastructure, cuts to essential safety-net programs,
and a rollback of health equity research—we must review and re-assess our collective strategies and realign our shared goals to advance birth equity. The State of Black Birth Equity in California seeks to foster a shared understanding of California's current position, its unique challenges, and the potential pathways for progress.
