About the California Coalition for Black Birth Justice
The California Coalition for Black Birth Justice (the Coalition) is a statewide organization committed to unifying and strengthening the Black birth justice movement in California. We bring together birth equity and justice leaders across the state to accelerate coordinated birth justice strategies. We are committed to serving as a statewide connector and convener, supporting the care and capacity of the Black birth justice workforce, and scaling systems change improvement efforts with health care institutions.
What We Do
Statewide connector & convener
As the statewide connector and convener, we bring together leaders across the state through summits and roundtables, and mobilize around the statewide Black Birth Justice Agenda.
Supporting the Black birth justice workforce
The Coalition is committed to supporting the care and capacity of the Black birth justice workforce (i.e. midwives, nurses, lactation professionals, doulas, community organizers, social workers, researchers, etc.) by creating paid learning opportunities and facilitating healing, restorative spaces to support our wellbeing.
Scaling systems-change efforts with health care organizations
We work with hospitals and health systems, public health jurisdictions, clinics, and insurance payers to assess and scale their birth equity efforts through technical assistance, learning collaboratives, action labs, and more.
We believe that combining our knowledge, capacity, lived experiences, power, and deep love for Black people through the activation of a Black women-led coalition has significant potential to drive the necessary systemic change.
